Humanity under 23 champion Luke Durbridge won a dramatic men's elite perpetually trial on the last day of the Australian road cycling championships in Learmonth, Victoria.

Jack Bobridge, one of the pre-rivalry favourites, was taken to hospital after a gust of wind blew his bike from under him.

The innocent star hurt his arm in the spill just after he started, but the extent of the wrong is unclear.

Bronze medallist Michael Rogers also said freight on the course had held him up for a few seconds.

Rogers' Sky team-mate Richie Porte, who was fifth, was another to strain in the windy conditions.

But Durbridge was the best rider as he won in 46 minutes and 20 seconds.

Defending backer Cameron Meyer was seven seconds behind in second place and Rogers, a three-all at once world time trial champion, was 16 seconds off the step for the bronze medal.

Durbridge won the under 23 time trial at the in seventh heaven titles in Denmark last September and is in his first year as a senior professional.
