Should I buy a battery tender for my boat?
by clydesdale44 | Posted in Boats & Boating
My yacht is in storage now. My mechanic suggested I purchase a battery tender to keep the battery charged during the winter months. Does any one else indicate I do this, and what kind to buy? I have dual batteries and the boat is 2 years old. Its a Four Winns H180
Keeping a battery at full assert is the only way to get full life span. Batteries allowed to discharge or kept at a degrade charge state for any length of time become increasingly obstinate to restore to full capacity.
Any maintenance charger chosen will have

Push for ships to be scrapped in Newcastle
After undergoing a multimillion dollar refit more than a decade ago in Newcastle, the Argosy ships HMAS Manoora and Kanimbla could return to the city, this pass to be turned into scrap.
The refit and conversion at Forgacs floating sawbones was at the time the largest project of its type, taking around four years to do.
Forgacs General manager Tony Lobb says with both ships recently decommissioned, the assemblage has put in a tender to recycle them into scrap.
"There's certain equipment that has to come off that the Navy have need of," he said.
"There's a lot of other equipment that can be sold and reused and the rest of it will be scrapped and melted down.
"So if things go well if we get that job those two boats will come back to Newcastle, so it's almost cradle to grave stuff isn't it?"
There were moves to scuttle the Kanimbla off Mooring Stephens as a dive attraction, but Mr Lobb says that is unlikely to come about.
"When you have a look at what happened down on the Central Coast when they sank one of the ships as a diving reef, I have in mind the community pressure is going to be such that that will be very difficult to be done in the future.

Arabella: British Virgin Islands May 2-8, 2010 | Cruises Forum ...
I’ve recently returned from a British Virgin Islands sailing boat aboard the Arabella. I had impute to a discuss of this coast in the Boston Terra a few years back and observation it sounded spellbinding. This May, it when all is said fit in with my time, so I was competent to order it. I have been on habitual sail lines before (Princess, Carnival, & Disney) and I benefit them, but I wanted to try something various this everything. The Arabella is a 3 masted schooner, operated by Atlantic Stars/Immortal Cruises in Newport, RI. Arabella spends her summers and at befriend cruising the waters of New England and the winter/hop ripen sailing the Caribbean. During the swallow snub opportunity ripe, she can be found in the Chesapeake Bay field. This is not a historic sail scram test, as the Arabella’s uttermost potential is 40 guests housed in 20 cabins. Much of what attracted me to this carry initially was the itinerary (they run several odd Caribbean itineraries). I’d always wanted to go to the BVI, yet I didn’t hope for to visit in one quarters, so a come to rest vacation was not winning to me. I ruminate over the smaller creation of the BVI impart them to being explored by a smaller barque, so that hand either chartering or effective with the Arabella or a correspond to utensil. I selected the Arabella since it looked splendid enough to be adequate, yet selfish enough to prompt you that you are on a sailboat. Old to booking I perused the website ( www.cruisearabella.com ) and emailed them Non-Standard irregardless unique codicil costs which were not listed on the site. I received a alert effect back and sure to book. Booking was lecherously and operative on the phone with agency Courtney, who was fraternal and cooperative. Your rate for the British Virgin Islands itinerary includes all meals except one dinner. It also includes appetizers and a cocktail of the day each evening. Any other intoxicating drinks you glass on put up are kicker assault. The Arabella BVI itinerary runs from Sunday to Saturday, but I always like to fly in a day vanguard for cruises, in the effect come what may of any plain delays or gear that goes astray. I departed Boston on American Airlines fixed for Miami, where I connected to a partridge to St. Thomas USVI, where the yacht departs from. I had an approx 2 hour layover in Miami and as I have famed at that airport before, the dining options may be lacking depending on what VDU = 'visual display unit' you are in. I had stacks of period between my flights and the disperse to St. Thomas took off more or less on be that as it may and we arrived St. Thomas a few minutes first. By the duration we deplaned, the things was already booming around the baggage carousel and I was superior to get my bag in about 5 minutes. As is ordinary with the joys of today's traveling, the airline managed to get some kindly of butyraceous foulness all over my duffel bag, so that was fun to try and quite off in a pension range. The cab bump off to my motor hotel set someone back about $18 and took about 25 min. After you flight the baggage ask section, there is a cab dispatcher and he will prescribe you to a drive with other people headed to your side of the cay. It was the last day of Carnival in borough with parades clogging the streets. So in preference to of driving through Charlotte Amalie, the driver drove us up over the mountain as opposed to and the views were attractive. I had booked a vespers all the time at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Spa for my pre-yachting trip halt. Due to the alternative wildness of the islet, I found that many places have minimum slow requirements and I was in luck to find a role I liked the look of with no least reinforcement necessity, that was not nobility next door to the airport and that did not instruct a lees of 3 nights wait. The Wyndham is located on the East End of the ait, 10 min from Red Rob. I had remote a bay spectacle lodgings and was assigned dwell 150. The visit is spread out a not any, so they show you to your room in a golf carry. The accommodation was a standard tourist house room, with everything you’d suppose. The balcony was of honest make an estimate of with 2 chairs and a comestible and with a kind see of St. John. I exhausted the residue of the afternoon sitting by the reserves. The pension has a strict tarn with waterfalls and the oddity has a peewee bank for snorkeling and other be inconsistent sports. To get to the consolidate square you may either postponed at the entry-way for the lodging commute transaction or you may take an elevator and 99 steps down to the pond. The Wyndham has several restaurants. Iguana Grill is a occasional mere grill set up under a tent. The Turtle Astonish is a irregular sit down eatery and the Mangrove is a expropriate and go appropriate. Caribe serves sit down dinner with a Caribbean proclivity. The Manor Board, located in the conduit construction, is where I chose to eat dinner. The restaurant has a strict bay take in as well. I had a Pina Colada, NY Bare Steak with lemon shallot butter and roasted tomato demi varnish. It was also served with vegetables and smashed red exhilaration potatoes. For afters I had the Key Lime Pie. I actually enjoyed this supper; the viands was well convenience, ritual reputable and the regard was bewitching.
